Ron's Objectives

Public Safety

Address crime more aggressively - Crime is down, the lowest since the 1960s

Put more officers on the streets - 200 more officers in 2007, 2008 and 2009

Make neighborhood police patrols a priority - Neighborhood Beat Officers implemented

Improve response times for Police and Fire-Rescue - Happening

Increase ICP officers (Interactive community policing) - done, replaced with NBO

Provide the necessary tools to fight crime - Doing it through budget and Bond program

Increase the enforcement of red light running violations - Red light camera program

Encourage participation in the VIP program - more participation than anywhere in City

Insure proper staffing and equipment levels for Fire-Rescue - done

Neighborhood Quality of Life

Make code enforcement work - Making progress

Encourage more parks, open space, and beautification - opened first dog park and         started on the second in District 12

Create MicoParks for passive leisure users

Continue support of Preston Ridge and Cottonwood trails - Phase II completed early 09

Support library master plan - opened New Timberglen library

Facilitate solutions to the 'wall' issue - Changed PID program to allow for wall repairs

Improve median, park, and infrastructure maintenance - happening

Establish new policies for sidewalk standards - Implemented New FastFix program

Establish program for new sidewalk systems and connectivity - Construction of               sidewalks on all major streets in District 12

Ensure that existing Far North Dallas land use plans are respected - Doing

Make the new Dallas Comprehensive Plan a reality - It's passed and being implemented

Insure appropriate funding for libraries and recreation centers - in budget and Bond

Protect District 12 quality of life through changes to development code - changed sign ordinance to prohibit portable signs and banners

Economic Development

Make City Hall easy to do business with - Working on it

Support retention of existing businesses - Doing

Encourage consistant and appropriate commercial re-development - Doing

Facilitate new business relocation - Doing

Market the City of Dallas as a business location - Doing

Fix our convention business - It's up this year and convention center hotel being built

Encourage the development of entry level single family homes - Program in place

Institute a 'One Stop' process for city services

Support development by insuring an adequate water supply through proper investment in facilities and conservation - Doing

Focus attention on transit oriented development opportunities - Doing

Transportation

Oppose the use of diesel commuter rail on the Cottonbelt - using new LRNT vehicles

Encourage the use of the LBJ corridor for DART rail - replaced by rebuild of LBJ

Support the Love Field Master Plan - Done as part of Wright amendment solution

Support DFW Intl Airport - Done as part of Wright amendment solution

Continue to support Dallas' role in regional transportation initiatives - Doing

Advocate revision to median and driveway policies

Continue intersection improvement program - Doing

Advocate the use of intelligent traffic management - Doing

Institute a policy of fixing streets before they become major repairs - Doing

Update major intersection signage with new large type signs - Complete in District 12

Utilize a 'road quality and smoothness' vehicle to measure road conditions - Done

Upgrade the quality level of city streets - Part of budget and 2006 Bond program

Insure that Dallas receives it's fair share of State and Federal funding resources

Continue Dallas' goal for improved air quality in the region - Met the last SIP levels

Making City Hall Work

Defeat the Blackwood Strong Mayor referendum - DONE, defeated by over 61%

Support the Alternative strong mayor proposal and place on the Nov 8th ballot - Done

Implement a more effective and responsive system of city government - Doing

Make City Hall accountable - Happening already

Make city operations more effective and efficient - Doing

Make Dallas City Hall customer friendly - Happening already

Institute a 'One Stop' process for city services

Make more effective use of technology - Happening already

Advocate a more open city government - doing

Expand broadcast coverage of Council, Board, and Commisson meetings - On the Web

Put recorded votes of Council, Board, and Commission meetings on City website

Get out of the box and have some vision - Marking progress

Downtown

Continue to encourage the development of retail and service oriented businesses  

Continue to encourage the adaptive reuse of downtown buildings - Happening

Allow and encourage vibrant street life such as food, vendors and entertainment

Implement the Downtown Parks Masterplan - Part of 2006 Bond program

Create MicroParks for passive leisure users

Implement transportation management plan

Fix Farmers Market and make it a destination - Put in 2006 Bond program

Find funding for pedestrian decking over I-30 as part of Project Pegasus - 2006 Bond

Explore the feasibility of building pedestrian decking over Woodall Rogers - done

Work with DART and the McKinney Ave Trolley to provide connectivity between all downtown districts such as the West End, Deep Ellum, Fair Park, Victory, McKinney Ave and the Convention Center - Downtown street car study underway

Support increased activity and use of the Arts District -- make Annette Strauss' vision come true - It's happening now

Trinity River Corridor Project

Make it happen...in fact it is happening - It's happening

Continue to implement the plan approved in the 1998 Bond Election and enriched by the Enhanced Balanced Vision Plan.

Continue to encourage public private partnerships to address additional features

Ensure that all parties involved follow through to make the plans become reality

Develop plans to market the Trinity as an attraction to not only those who live in Dallas but to visitors to the City

Southern Dallas

Make Fair Park what it should be - Funds in 2006 Bond program

Develop programs at Fair Park to encourage events and activities

Turn the Cotton Bowl into the centerpiece of Fair Park - In 2006 Bond program

Ensure that events are retained and attracted to the Cotton Bowl

Continue to encourage the opening of retail and service businesses

Develop plan for entry level single family homes - Doing

Solve issue of vacant lots as a result of URSB actions - Program instituted

Don't be in such a rush that it's not done right
