Ron is heavily involved in bringing economic development to Dallas. In the fall of 2005 he was the only Councilmember to accompany the City's economic director for international business on a 2 week trip to China to begin proactive development of Dallas as China's link to the US and Canada. Since then he has made 4 more trips to China to build the economic development relationships that will help grow the economy of Dallas. The International Inland Port of Dallas ( IIPOD) will be a tremendous economic engine for Dallas and jump start the development of the Southern Sector of Dallas. This will grow our tax base and help spread the tax base over the entire city. The tax base of the city grew this past year by over $6 Billion as a result of our economic development efforts and it is this type of growth that will help reduce the level of dependancy on homeowners.

During the 2006 budget deliberations Ron was on the Mayor's committee that developed the final budget amendments. The Mayor's goal was to reduce the tax rate by .25 cents per $100. After scrubbing the budget, the committee put forth a recommendation that resulted in a reduction of the tax rate by 1.25 cents per $100 valuation while maintaining or increasing the level of city services. This was more than the Mayor asked for so Ron's work was very successful. The final budget with the new lower rate was adopted by the City Council. City staff jokes that Ron's budget workbook had more sticky notes than they've ever seen, proving that Ron pays attention to detail.

Ron works full time as a Councilmember on behalf of District 12 and the entire city and he enjoys the work.
